Programs for All Ages

All camp activities are designed to create an inner feeling of joy and to allow each child to see the growth of skills; the skills will be learned in a group and applied individually. Self-confidence will be produced through this progression.

Sports
Children learn through play. Lessons, practice, and joyful competition allow our campers to develop teamwork, sportsmanship and accomplishment.

  • Archery
  • Basketball
  • Kickball
  • Mountain Biking*
  • Softball
  • Tennis *
  • Volleyball

Performing Arts
Children in our camp enjoy movement, rhythm, improvisation, and performing for their friends and counselors. Through programs in drama, music and dance, children are supported to express their talents. Campers from different cultures energize the group, creating unique expressions and memorable performances.

Outdoor Life Skills
Children are naturally curious about the outdoors. Our staff will safely guide your child around our 1150 acre camp to explore the forest, streams and waterfalls and hike a ridgeline in the mountains. Our camp plugs children into clean, natural surroundings. A connection to nature is often missing during the rest of the year.

  • Fishing
  • Hiking
  • Outdoor Cooking

Waterfront
Our camp staff includes certified lifeguards and swimming instructors who teach the skills for a full range of swimming abilities. Campers move from the sandy shoreline to play in and on the water. They travel beyond the enclosed swimming area in canoes and kayaks or perhaps sail, ski or go tubing across the water. Summer on the lake is fun, pure and simple.

  • Canoes
  • Kayaks
  • Paddleboats
  • Rowboats
  • Swimming
  • Tubing
  • Wakeboarding *
  • Waterskiing *

Arts
Children love to create. Our camp’s arts programs will take you from traditional camp crafts to perspective drawing, print making and graphic design, jewelry making, and ceramics.

Challenge Courses
Campers can learn about the safety procedures and equipment that will allow them to climb to tree top heights, cross from tower to tower on steel cables and fly down zip lines. Challenge by choice is the core principle of the program. Campers have the freedom to safely take on the challenges they chose. Staff maintains safety and ensures campers are secure as they accomplish individual and team goals.

  • Climbing Tower
  • High Ropes *
  • Low Ropes

Rags and Leathers
Anyone at camp has the opportunity to choose a mentor and set a personal goal for the upcoming year. In the raggers program, each stage of completion is marked by a more advanced color rag. A different shaped leather pendant is used for campers under age 12.

* Talcott Village

6 to 7 year olds receive close attention to their personal needs. They experience camp activities in cabin groups with their counselor throughout their stay at camp.

8 to 11 year olds are able to make decisions about activities they want to do. These are the older children living in McAlister Village. Their first day of camp is spent with their cabin and divisional groups as they sample a range of activities in camp. At the end of this day, they select from camp’s activities for the rest of the week. Activities are set to run for 45 or 90 minute periods and there are four to eight periods per day.

Tubing! – zip across the lake with your new camp friends. A double period can be scheduled during the session for your camper to ride behind the ski boat. Registration required.

Horseback Riding! – try a guided trail ride on horseback through the woods and along the water. A double period can be scheduled during the session for campers age 7+ and weigh over 50 lbs. Registration required.

12 year olds are an age group with a wide range of maturity levels. Some 12 year olds are clearly younger acting and prefer to be with younger children. For these children, we advise applying to McAlister Village. Other 12 year olds are interested in teen aged activities and choose to be with older children. In this case, we advise enrolling at Talcott Village –designed for our oldest campers age 13-15.

13 to 15 year olds are able to make sophisticated decisions about their activities. These are the oldest campers housed at Talcott Village. Their first day of camp is spent with their cabin and divisional groups and sample a range of activities in camp. At the end of this day they select from camp’s activities for the rest of the week. Talcott campers have additional activities that are offered only to this age group. Activities are designed to run for 45 or 90 minute periods and there are four to eight periods per day.

CIT Program - Age 16 to 17
The goal of the CIT program is to help adolescents gain basic leadership experience and to support advanced community-living skills. While it is not necessary for a CIT candidate to plan to be a future counselor, much of the practical experience and skills will be aimed toward that possibility. The leadership skills learned in the CIT Program can be transferred to many other groups and jobs in the future.

The CIT program is designed to promote a successful adolescent transition, from childhood to young adult. The CIT program will, among other things, help participants decide if they want to work with younger children at camp or in other settings.

Applicants must complete a CIT application, register for camp, supply contact information for three references and pass a personal interview.

Necessary information and forms will be found in the CIT Information and Registration Packet (.pdf format)
